Busby Metals Down Hole Drilling Tools
When the oil and gas drilling business required the life cycle of the drill to be dramatically improved due fact they were going deeper and deeper for oil, the design change from a standard bronze or even a higher performing Copper Beryllium Alloy would not give them the length and time needed so a need for a much more lubricious alloy was desired. The industry turned to Toughmet 3 (C72900) as the coefficient of friction was better and this alloy group allowed a much longer life. So much so, that the tool was no longer required to be replaced prior to the tools carbide wear-down. This save millions of dollars and time annually.
